February Emphasis: Alabaster Offering
The Alabaster Offering has been a tradition in the Church of the Nazarene since 1949. Every February and September we take a special offering, much coming from Alabaster boxes that adults and children keep all year to fill with change. The inspiration came from the Scriptures when the woman broke her alabaster jar of precious perfume and poured it on Jesus because she loved Him so much. That is what Alabaster offerings mean to us; it is a love gift to the Lord so that the message can be sent around the world through the building of Churches and Chapels, and Hospitals and Clinics, and Missionary homes and District Centers. By giving this love offering, we are making sure that special needs can be met without waiting for it to go through the budget process at the International Headquarters. All offerings from Alabaster go directly to the Alabaster projects. No administration costs are withheld. An average over the last 57 years has been 2.7 projects weekly. The figure from 2006 was an average of 4.5 projects weekly. I am hoping to hear that with the 2007 and 2008 numbers, the average will continue to rise.
Love Jesus, Love souls, Love the Church by giving your Love Offering Feb. 15 in our service.
